mounds of undulating grass

perfectly manicured and syncopated

dark-haired, stooped shoulders in reverence

lost in memories, thoughts

an array of brilliant crosses

tiny representations of valor

perfectly symmetrical, even, unannounced,

symbol of blood spilled in the name of honor

granite, everlasting, entombment

safe from floods, earthworm ravages,

sterility, shelves of limbs, torsos and skulls

etched, for familial rememberance

clouds of white smoke

rising in the tropical topography

mongrels, strays, unclaimed

reproduction’s excess, fatal results

tradition, earth, dust-to-dust

72 inches, separation, sleep

curved stones, plastic flowers, marble placard

upturned soil, awaiting another return

to where, to what,

a circle come round

what has been added

what learned, loved, gained

a legacy left?

a somnambulant journey, forced march, or divine destiny

where have we gone right?
